Chiefs and Cowboys set to battle each other to acquire Cardinals’ third overall pick in 2026 NFL Draft

The 2026 NFL Draft is only a few weeks away, and there still isn’t much of a consensus on what’s going to happen beyond the first two picks. Fernando Mendoza will go first overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, and Arvell Reese is now the favorite to be the second pick by the New York Jets. Then the real draft starts.

The Arizona Cardinals could go several directions with their selection, as they have plenty of holes to fill all across the roster. That fact could also bring about a potential trade, as a move down the board would give the rebuilding Cardinals more picks to work with. This week, two big-market teams have been the subject of a potential trade for that pick: the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.

It sounds like both the Cowboys and Chiefs want to trade up for David Bailey

What’s more surprising than both the Cowboys and Chiefs being mocked to trade up to No. 3 is that it would be for the same player: Texas Tech EDGE David Bailey.

First, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman dropped a mock draft based on intel he has gathered from NFL and college football sources. He had the Cowboys trading up to third overall to grab Bailey. Meanwhile, CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli had the Chiefs making that same move, also for Bailey, in his mock draft published this week.

It should be noted that there are actual reports about trade rumors regarding the Cowboys and Bailey. Fornelli’s mock trade for the Chiefs wasn’t based on intel, and was just an idea for a potential trade.

The idea of trading up for Bailey might stem from the Tennessee Titans sitting at fourth overall with a clear need for a dominant pass-rusher. Many mock drafts have slotted Bailey into that No. 4 pick. If the Chiefs and Cowboys are enamored with the Texas Tech EDGE, they very well might have to jump the Titans to get him.
