The Kansas City Chiefs secured a 27-19 victory over the Houston Texans in Week 16, but the win came at a cost. Key players, including defensive tackle Chris Jones, were injured during the game, raising concerns as the team heads into the playoffs.
Jones, who suffered a calf strain in the fourth quarter, became the focal point of worry after he hobbled off the field.
However, NFL insider Jay Glazer provided some relief when he reported that Jones‘ MRI results came back negative, meaning the injury is not season-ending. Although this is a positive development, the full extent of the injury remains unknown, and the Chiefs are still assessing the situation. With the team already locked into the playoffs, losing Jones for any significant time could have been a major blow to their defense.
Jones, who has been one of the top defensive tackles in the league, has recorded 48 QB hurries, 12 QB hits, and 6 sacks this season. His leadership and experience-bolstered by three Super Bowl wins-make him an indispensable part of the Chiefs’ defense. Head coach Andy Reid had no updates on Jones’ condition following the game.
“It’s probably too early to tell right now…he’s going to get the MRIs and all that stuff,” Reid explained.

More injury concerns for the Chiefs
In addition to Jones, the Chiefs suffered more injury setbacks during the game. Linebacker Jack Cochrane sustained a left ankle fracture in the first quarter, effectively ending his season.
“Jack Cochrane has a left ankle fracture, so that’s not a good thing,” Reid confirmed
Right tackle Jawaan Taylor also left the game with a knee strain. While it wasn’t deemed serious, the Chiefs are closely monitoring his condition to determine if he’ll be ready for the playoffs.
Despite these injuries, there was a silver lining in wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown‘s performance. Brown recorded 5 receptions for 45 yards, a promising sign for the Chiefs as he looks fully recovered and ready to contribute in the postseason.
While injuries remain a concern, the Chiefs remain firmly in playoff contention. With Andy Reid and the coaching staff managing these issues, the team still looks poised to make a strong playoff run, provided key players like Jones and Taylor can recover in time.
