Chrisean Rock wants more money for Angel Reese and shocks her: She’s doing exactly what LeBron is doing

Angel Reese has never been afraid to speak her mind – on or off the court. But during a recent episode of her podcast Unapologetically Angel, even the Chicago Sky forward was caught off guard when rapper Chrisean Rock made a bold comparison that lit up social media.

While the two discussed the ongoing issue of pay disparity between WNBA and NBA players, Rock dropped a jaw-dropping comment, telling Reese, “Yeah, because you’re doing exactly what LeBron is doing.”

The moment left Reese momentarily stunned, laughing in response, before continuing the discussion about the state of WNBA salaries.

“I ain’t got the money for us just yet, but it’s coming,” Reese said. “It’s coming. It’s a lot. It’s a lot that goes into it, but it’s coming. Trust me, it’s coming.”

Reese, who was selected No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, signed a four-year, $324,383 rookie deal with the Sky.

For the 2025 season, she’s set to earn just under $75,000, per Spotrac. That figure will increase gradually to nearly $94,000 by 2027 if the team picks up her option.

While WNBA salaries have steadily improved, the difference compared to NBA contracts remains staggering – especially for stars with Reese’s marketability and on-court impact.

Fellow 2024 draft classmate Caitlin Clark, now with the Indiana Fever, signed a four-year, $338,056 rookie deal. Despite being one of the most transformative players in women’s basketball history, Clark will earn just over $78,000 in 2025.

Angel Reese Already Building Her Legacy

Reese has quickly proven that she belongs among the league’s rising stars. In her rookie campaign, she averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game – leading the league in rebounding and earning a spot in the WNBA All-Star Game.

Her dominance on the boards and her competitive edge have drawn widespread comparisons to past legends, but it was Rock’s LeBron James remark that sparked the latest viral moment.

When asked what changes she wanted to see in women’s sports, Rock didn’t hesitate:

“Us getting paid our worth. Period. Like, yeah. Yeah, cuz you’re doing exactly what LeBron is doing.”

Eyes on the Future: MVP Predictions for Reese

The hype around Reese doesn’t stop there. On the Moreau Sports Media Prod Co. podcast, a bold prediction was made – that Reese will one day capture the WNBA’s MVP award.

“I think she’s gonna be a future MVP in the WNBA,” said the host. “I think she’s gonna win a Defensive Player of the Year.

“I’m putting this on record. I think before her career is done, she will have a better career than Jonquel Jones, and she’ll have a better career than Brittney Griner.”

While Brittney Griner remains one of the WNBA’s most decorated stars – boasting multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards and Olympic gold medals – Reese is just getting started.

Her rookie season was proof of her limitless potential, and if the current trend continues, she could not only match the accolades of her predecessors but also help drive real change in how women’s sports stars are compensated.

For now, Reese is staying focused on her journey – but thanks to moments like this, she’s also ensuring the conversation around pay equity in the WNBA continues to grow louder.
