Inter Miami suffered in Lima. Alianza took control of the match from the first minute, showing why they are one of the most prestigious teams in Peruvian soccer. With Messi, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul on the field, the Herons looked disconcerted, uncoordinated in defense, with little control in the midfield and without any shots on goal. On the other hand, the ‘Aliancistas’ made their home advantage count and struck three times, thus completing a heavy defeat for the reigning MLS champions.
Paolo Guerrero double
The great figure of the match was the Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero, who scored twice, proving that despite being 42 years old, he still has gunpowder in his boots.
The first goal came after a series of rebounds, preceded by a bad attempt to get out of the Herons, Paolo Guerrero beat Falcon in the air to head home into an empty net.
The second goal came minutes later. Winning a rebound, Alianza scored again against a Miami side that was out of sorts with a great collective play finished once again by Jose Paolo Guerrero.
Alianza Lima thrashes Inter Miami
Already during the second half, in the 60th minute, Cantero had a clear chance in front of the goal to make it 3-0, but in the control he lengthened the ball and, under pressure from Falcon, could not finish comfortably and sent the ball to one side of the goal.
The pink team tried to reduce the deficit by looking insistently for Luis Suarez, but the striker’s aim failed him as he missed a clear chance when he struck the ball with a defective volley inside the area.
Minutes later, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul were substituted and immediately Miami’s arrivals ceased. Alianza, however, continued to look for the opponent’s goal and in the final stretch of the match, Ramos, in a lethal counterattack, scored the third and last goal of the match to consummate the thrashing of the Peruvian team.
Now Javier Mascherano’s side will look to redeem themselves against Atletico Nacional in Colombia on January 31 and then against Barcelona de Guayaquil in Ecuador on February 2 to close their tour of South America.
