Conor McGregor made an unexpected splash during the Milwaukee Bucks‘ game against the Utah Jazz on Monday night, with a unique interaction between the UFC star and Bucks’ center, Brook Lopez, grabbing attention.
Sitting courtside at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, McGregor watched the game between the Bucks and Jazz, but it wasn’t just the action on the court that caught the spotlight.
During the second quarter, while the Bucks were leading 51-46, McGregor made his way to his seat. On his way, he paused to chat with the Milwaukee bench where Lopez was sitting.
Irish MMA star was taken aback by Brook Lopez’s height
The two shared a handshake before McGregor seemingly asked Lopez to stand up. The 7-foot-1 center obliged, rising to his full height, sticking his chest out as they locked eyes and sized each other up. The moment clearly highlighted the height difference between the two athletes.
Lopez addressed the unusual interaction after the game, revealing McGregor had asked him how tall he was.
“He asked me how tall I was,” Lopez said.
“I let him know. He asked me to stand up, and I did. And I knew at that point once I got up, I had to size him up.”
Lopez, who has a reputation for his humor, continued.
“You know, I had to do a little something. I’ve seen the face-offs before so I had to do my part.”
Lopez also joked about how teammate Damian Lillard might help him out if a hypothetical fight with McGregor were to happen.
“If something’s gonna happen, maybe Dame can be my promoter, Dame can be my manager, teach me to fight ’cause I got nothing,” Lopez quipped.
The Bucks went on to secure a 125-110 victory in their second game of a three-game road trip. After losing to the LA Clippers in their previous game, they will now face the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
