Conor McGregor has finally addressed the postponement of his highly anticipated UFC fight with Michael Chandler, with the Irish fighter’s return to the Octagon now delayed.
The MMA superstar was scheduled to make his octagon return on June 29 in the main event of UFC 303 in Las Vegas. However, an undisclosed injury forced the Irishman to withdraw, pushing his comeback to the end of September.
Fans eagerly awaited McGregor‘s reaction to his first-ever withdrawal from a UFC fight. However, they were surprised when he took to Twitter shortly after the news broke to announce a significant bet on Cristiano Ronaldo for Euro 2024.
McGregor revealed he placed a 50,745 wager on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to finish as the tournament’s top goalscorer.
“60 G’s on @Cristiano to retain his Euro Golden Boot. Siuuu!” McGregor posted on Twitter.
If Ronaldo achieves this, McGregor will win 761,310 ($964,732).
McGregor and Ronaldo’s Relationship
McGregor and Ronaldo, who have a history together, were seen last December at the Day of Reckoning boxing event in Saudi Arabia, where their ringside conversation about their watches went viral.
Ronaldo also visited one of McGregor’s training sessions in 2016 for his rematch with Nate Diaz.
McGregor is known to be a fan of Manchester United and was pleased when Ronaldo returned to the club after leaving Juventus, although that didn’t work out for either party.
They have been seen together at multiple events in Saudi Arabia, where Ronaldo is a key figure as part of his contract with Al-Nassr and the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
Rarely a high-profile event in Saudi Arabia goes by without Ronaldo being pictured on the front row, such is his importance to the nation’s hopes of becoming the leading power in hosting sporting events.
