Cooper Flagg to miss All-Star game with foot sprain

The Dallas Mavericks announced that rookie Cooper Flagg suffered a sprain to the midsection of his left foot and will not be able to play in the All-Star Game, where he was to participate in the Rising Stars tournament.

Flagg, who underwent an MRI, suffered the injury during the Mavericks’ game in Phoenix, where they lost 120-111 to the Suns. Flagg played more than 35 minutes and scored 27 points.

The rookie, who was chosen as the number one pick in the last draft, will miss Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers and what would have been his first All-Star Game this weekend.

Flagg was called up to ‘Team Melo’ – captained by Carmelo Anthony – along with Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper of the San Antonio Spurs and Reed Sheppard of the Houston Rockets.

This year, the NBA has organized a mini-tournament called ‘Rising Stars’, which will feature four teams made up of first and second-year rookies, as well as G League players.

Flagg has emerged in a few months as the leader of the Mavericks, averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, and is the favorite to be selected as ‘Rookie of the Year’
