The Dallas Cowboys know they can’t enter the 2025 season relying solely on CeeDee Lamb to carry the receiving corps. While Lamb has blossomed into one of the league’s elite wideouts, the supporting cast behind him has been inconsistent at best. With free agency heating up and the draft approaching, the Cowboys are being linked to one veteran in particular: former Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett.
Released by Seattle this offseason after ten productive years, Lockett is now one of the more intriguing names left on the market. Despite a dip in production in 2024, just 600 yards and two touchdowns, his resume includes four 1,000-yard seasons and a reputation as one of the league’s savviest route runners.

A reunion with Schottenheimer could benefit both sides
One key factor fueling speculation around Lockett to Dallas is his past connection with Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who previously coached in Seattle. The familiarity could help Lockett hit the ground running in a new system – and give Dak Prescott the reliable secondary weapon he’s been missing.
While Parris Campbell was added earlier in free agency, analysts remain skeptical that he’s enough to elevate the offense. Lockett, even at 32, would provide a steady veteran presence and route-running precision that could open up the field for both Lamb and the run game.
Cap space and contract make it a realistic move
The Cowboys have plenty of financial flexibility, with over $37 million in cap space according to Over the Cap. Better yet, Lockett is projected to command just a one-year, $7.7 million deal, a low-risk investment for a contender in need of firepower.
For a team trying to make a legitimate postseason run, the move makes too much sense. Lockett brings experience, playoff seasoning, and an ability to stretch the field or work the intermediate game, depending on how Dallas uses him.
Cowboys can’t afford to wait much longer
As the competition in the NFC gets stronger, the Cowboys need to be aggressive. Signing Tyler Lockett may not make the biggest splash, but it could be exactly the kind of smart, under-the-radar move that keeps Dallas in the Super Bowl conversation.
