As the Dallas Cowboys begin the latter half of their 2024 season, everything is on the table. Jobs are on the line as the team is a disappointing 3-5 and heads into a stretch in which they will be without Dak Prescott, at least for the next four games. It’s all the more disappointing considering the front office gave Prescott a huge extension right before the season began.
Prescott was playing fine before the injury, but not to the level a player of his caliber is capable of. Head coach Mike McCarthy, meanwhile, likely won’t be on the sidelines past this season if it continues in this way. With wholesale changes seemingly imminent in either 2025 or 2026, Cowboys fans have already started wondering who will even be left in just a few seasons. And that includes Prescott.
One Cowboys fan in particular had a very interesting thought pop up when the news of Prescott’s upcoming IR stint was announced. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could play the long game and wait for Arch Manning in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Could Arch Manning be in play for the Dallas Cowboys in 2026?
It makes sense considering Manning will be at Texas for at least the next two seasons. With the Cowboys being in the same state, it’s easy to connect those dots. It’s not quite a hometown hero type of thing, though.
Manning was born in New Orleans and played high school football there, too, so landing with the Saints would be a true dream. Especially for his grandfather Archie, who began the Manning football legacy with the Saints in the 1970s.
Dallas would also have to own a very high pick in the 2026 NFL Draft in order to even get a shot at Manning. He’s expected to be the No. 1 overall pick if everything goes according to plan with the Longhorns.
Prescott is under contract through the 2028 season, although there’s a potential out right before that season. If Prescott underperforms in 2025, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a new signal-caller for Dallas in 2026, whether it’s Manning or not.
