It isn’t often that a superstar wide receiver becomes available in a midseason trade, but the Las Vegas Raiders are throwing in the towel with Davante Adams and are preparing to trade the disgruntled pass-catcher before the NFL‘s Nov. 4 deadline.

Adams, a six-time Pro Bowl selection and a three-time first-team All-Pro, has been strongly linked with the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints — both of whom have starting quarterbacks that Adams has played with before. But hopes of reuniting with Aaron Rodgers in New York or Derek Carr in New Orleans could be dashed by the Dallas Cowboys, who always seem to be in the mix when an elite player becomes available.

Cowboys are “comfortable” with receiving corps

As Adams speculation intensifies, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy had to answer the question Wednesday as to whether Dallas was truly in the fight to acquire Adams and pair him with CeeDee Lamb to create a deadly duo for quarterback Dak Prescott.

McCarthy‘s answer could be upsetting to Cowboys fans, as he made it clear that Adams is not a priority for the franchise — although he respects the player’s talent immensely. McCarthy, who coached Adams when both represented the Green Bay Packers, indicated that he is comfortable with the current crop of receivers behind Lamb, who is commonly regarded as among the NFL‘s elite receivers.

Moreover, Dallas has a far more practical reason not to pursue Adams. The Cowboys’ salary cap situation delayed Lamb’s extension over the summer, as well as the record-breaking $60 million per year contract that the franchise eventually awarded to Prescott hours before Dallas’ first regular-season game. Adams has two years left on the five-year, $140 million deal he signed with the Raiders in 2022, although those final two seasons are non-guaranteed — which means any team that acquires the 31-year-old will have to negotiate an extension with him, something Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones will be reluctant to do.
