The Dallas Cowboys have long relied on Micah Parsons to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks, but beyond their star edge rusher, the team’s pass rush leaves much to be desired. The defensive front seven has struggled to consistently disrupt offenses, making life far too easy for opposing signal-callers.
Given this weakness, owner and general manager Jerry Jones may want to consider bringing in reinforcements. One intriguing option? Former Pro Bowl pass rusher Von Miller, who, despite being past his prime, still has the ability to make an impact.
Could Miller provide a veteran presence?
At 35 years old, Miller is no longer the dominant force he once was, but that doesn’t mean he’s lost all his ability. Last season with the Buffalo Bills, he recorded six sacks in 13 games while playing just 40 percent of defensive snaps.
Though his role was diminished, he still showed flashes of the pass-rushing prowess that made him an eight-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, and two-time Super Bowl champion.
Miller‘s experience and leadership could bring tremendous value to the Cowboys‘ defense. Pairing him with Parsons could give Dallas a formidable one-two punch off the edge-one that could bring havoc to opposing backfields.
Having a proven veteran such as Miller lined up alongside Parsons would not only take some of the pressure off the younger star but also serve as a valuable mentorship opportunity for the Cowboys‘ younger defenders.
Financially, Miller wouldn’t break the bank. The veteran pass rusher was released by the Bills last month as a salary cap casualty, saving Buffalo approximately $8.4 million. He originally signed a six-year, $120 million deal with the Bills, but at this stage of his career, his market value has significantly dropped.
However, Miller’s ties to Dallas could make the Cowboys an appealing landing spot. A native of DeSoto, Texas, and a former Texas A&M standout, Miller already spends his offseasons in the area.
Given the opportunity to play for his hometown team, it’s reasonable to believe he would be open to signing a team-friendly deal to finish his career wearing the iconic Cowboys star.
