Cue in the trade rumors! Panthers already fielding inquiries about benched QB Bryce Young

Now that QB Bryce Young has been put on ice, several NFL teams have reportedly reached out to the Carolina Panthers regarding a potential trade for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft.

The move to sideline the 23-year-old quarterback comes after a difficult start to the season, sparking rumors that his future with the Panthers may be uncertain, despite official statements from the organization.

Panthers to make a decision on Bryce Young’s future

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Panthers have been contacted by “several teams” in the days following Young’s benching.

While Carolina coach Dave Canales has publicly stated that the team has no current plans to trade the young quarterback, insiders suggest that a trade could become more likely, particularly in the offseason when teams in need of a quarterback are likely to explore all options.

Young, who was drafted with high expectations after an impressive collegiate career at Alabama, has faced challenges adjusting to the NFL.

Since his debut, he has posted a 2-16 record as a starter, and his struggles this season have only intensified the pressure.

In two games, Carolina has managed just 245 passing yards, the worst in the league.

Young’s performance, which includes 13 interceptions compared to 11 touchdowns, has raised concerns about his fit with the Panthers’s offensive scheme.

Compounding the issue is the Panthers’ significant investment in Young.

The team traded up to the No. 1 pick in 2023 to select him, giving up the No. 9 pick, wide receiver D.J. Moore, and future first- and second-round draft picks.

With such a high price paid, the Panthers may be reluctant to move on from their investment so soon.

However, NFL insiders suggest that a strong offer from another team could shift the organization’s stance.

QB injuries could speed up Young’s exit

While the Panthers have yet to confirm any serious trade discussions, Schefter reports that several teams have internally considered acquiring Young.

The combination of his youth, raw talent, and the potential for a change of scenery has sparked interest across the league.

One source believes that Carolina will likely hold off on any significant moves until after the current season, when teams finalizing their quarterback plans may offer more substantial deals.

However, unforeseen circumstances, such as injuries to key starters, could accelerate trade talks.

Carolina is likely to weigh its options carefully as it navigates Young’s future.

With other recent high draft picks, including Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, having been traded for modest returns after disappointing stints with their original teams, the Panthers may want to avoid a similar scenario.

The team’s recent struggles and the upheaval surrounding Young’s benching have led some NFL analysts to question the organization’s decision-making process, particularly with respect to its coaching hires and handling of young talent.
