“If you believe you’re going to be a successful person in society one day, start acting like you already are,” she told the inmates. Her words were met with a standing ovation as she encouraged the graduates to stay committed to their dreams.

This graduation ceremony marked Ramos‘ first appearance at the event, but Prescott has been a regular participant for the past three years. The Change Agent Prison Curriculum, which is based on Damon West’s book The Coffee Bean, aims to help inmates cultivate positive habits and turn their lives around. West, who was once an inmate himself, created the program to offer prisoners hope and the tools for reintegration into society.
