Less than three months after signing the richest contract in NFL history by average annual salary, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is set to undergo a season-ending operation in the coming days after he suffered a hamstring injury during a loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Without Prescott — who led the NFL in touchdown passes last season — the Cowboys‘ slim playoff hopes get even slimmer, to the point where qualifying would be improbable.
Although Prescott is in the first year of a $60 million per year deal, his status as Dallas‘ present and future under center is not in question. The Cowboys and their long-suffering fans may be desperate to end their Super Bowl drought, but there is a more-human side to the game that Prescott — the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2022 — is seeking to embody.
Prescott post salutes Sarah Jane
As a decision looms over his season-ending surgery to repair his partial hamstring tear, Prescott chose to emphasize something in his life that is more important than football: his fiancee and the mother of his daughter, Sarah Jane Ramos. Saturday was Ramos‘ birthday, and Prescott gave her a deserved shoutout on Instagram Stories.
“Happy birthday to my fiancee,” Prescott wrote. “Blessed to spend every second we get together. Me & MJ are lucky to have you!”
Ramos gave birth to the couple’s daughter Margaret Jane in February, bringing a ray of sunshine to Prescott’s life after the Cowboys were upended in the first round of last season’s playoffs. Dak seems set to spend a ton of time with his eight-month-old daughter due to his 2024 season ending prematurely; in addition, he wil surely continue to do important work in his community as well, through his Faith Fight Finish Foundation.
