Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg joins elite NBA company with historic night

The Dallas Mavericks secured a narrow 100-98 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, with 19-year-old Cooper Flagg once again dominating the spotlight.

The former Duke standout finished the contest with 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and one steal while shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 2-of-5 from three-point range in 35 minutes of play.

Cooper Flagg shocks Anthony Davis with a monster dunk

Flagg’s performance was not only a crucial factor in the Mavericks‘ win but also a historic milestone for the young star.

According to the Mavs PR account on X.com, this marked the eighth time in Flagg‘s career that he registered at least 20 points, five assists, and five rebounds.

In doing so, he tied with NBA icon Carmelo Anthony for the fourth-most 20-5-5 games by a teenager in NBA history.

Only surpassed by LeBron

In addition to his stat line, Flagg became the second youngest player in NBA history to reach 150 career assists, a distinction topped only by LeBron James. Being second to LeBron is nothing to be ashamed of.

The Mavericks selected Flagg with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Duke, and the 19-year-old has not disappointed.

He is currently averaging 18.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from beyond the arc in 36 games.

According to Real App analytics, Flagg is the only player this season ranking among the top 10 in clutch points, rebounds, and assists, underscoring his ability to influence games in critical moments.

Despite Flagg‘s brilliance, the Mavericks have experienced a tumultuous season. They currently sit as the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a 14-23 record through 37 games.

While the team has shown improvement recently, winning two straight contests, it remains below preseason expectations.

An elite talent spearheading Dallas

Flagg’s trajectory has drawn comparisons to some of the NBA’s most elite young players.

Following his standout season at Duke, where he led the program to a Final Four appearance, expectations are high that he could develop into a perennial All-Star.

For the Mavericks, Flagg‘s growth offers hope that the team can rise in the Western Conference standings despite current struggles.

His combination of scoring, playmaking, and defensive contributions has already made him one of the most exciting teenage talents in recent memory, and fans will be eager to see if he can continue to reach new milestones as the 2025-26 season progresses.

With each game, Cooper Flagg cements his place among the NBA’s most promising young stars, and his historic night against the Kings serves as a reminder of just how bright the future looks for the Mavericks‘ phenom.

The Mavericks will continue their road trip on Thursday, visiting the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City in hopes of building momentum heading into the second half of the season.
