Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has put his Oakland County home up for sale, citing security concerns for his family. Campbell made the decision after fans discovered the location of his family’s residence, particularly following Lions’ losses.
Though Campbell has no intention of leaving the organization, he and his family felt the need to relocate for safety. According to Crain’s Detroit, the coach loved the property but could no longer risk the exposure.
Campbell‘s home, which sits on two acres of land and was purchased for $3.5 million in 2021, is now listed at $4.5 million.
The house, built in 2013, offered plenty of space and privacy, but Campbell explained that “people figured out where we lived when we lost,” making it difficult for his family to feel safe. Campbell has since moved his family to an undisclosed location to ensure their privacy and security.
Within 24 hours of being listed, the house’s status changed to “pending” as potential buyers-said to be Lions fans-showed immediate interest.
Campbell expressed relief over the quick process, saying it made things “a heck of a lot easier” for him and his family. The coach is now settling into a new home that “fits the architecture” they had been looking for, providing the privacy they need.
Off field issues amid Lions turnaround
Despite the personal challenges off the field, Campbell remains highly regarded by Lions fans for turning the team around since taking over in 2021.
When Campbell joined the Lions, the team had struggled to make the playoffs and was consistently finishing at the bottom of the NFC North. His first season ended with a 3-13 record, but progress was soon evident.
In 2022, Campbell led the Lions to a 9-8 finish, just missing a playoff spot. Last season, they won 12 regular season games and reached the NFC Championship game, losing a close match to the San Francisco 49ers.
With the Lions considered Super Bowl contenders this season, Campbell faces added pressure, though the team is off to a 1-1 start after a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
