The Kansas City Chiefs maintained their perfect record this season with a thrilling 30-24 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. DeAndre Hopkins, recently acquired by the Chiefs before Week 8, delivered his strongest performance yet in a Kansas City uniform.
Hopkins recorded eight receptions for 86 yards and scored his first two touchdowns with his new team. Following the game, he shared a message with fans, which was later posted on the Chiefs’ social media.
“First one down in they home,” Hopkins said after the game, “Go time. We ain’t done yet.”
Adapting to new team
Hopkins joined the Chiefs after starting the season with the Tennessee Titans, where his standout game had come in Week 3 against the Packers, posting seven catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. Monday’s game marked new season highs for him in catches, yards, and touchdowns.
“Communication, talking through our practice, talking locker room, just communicating every day, just about looks that we see,” said Hopkins.
“And me just picking his [Patrick Mahomes] brain, asking him what he likes, and when I’m not out there, taking the rep, I’m always learning and just seeing How he does things.
“[I feel] a lot more comfortable. Coaches do a great job of getting me prepared. It’s not just Connor [Embree], but everybody on the offensive side. Everybody’s always testing me and asking me questions. You know, just seeing my knowledge of the offense as we go.”
In his 12th NFL season, the 32-year-old Hopkins has previously played with the Texans and Cardinals, amassing three first-team All-Pro honors and five Pro Bowl selections.
Looking ahead, the undefeated Chiefs will host the Denver Broncos on Sunday, November 10, at 13:00 ET, as they aim to continue their winning streak.
