The San Fransisco 49ers‘ Deebo Samuel revealed Rick Pearsall is going to be okay after the rookie wider receiver was shot twice in the chest following a failed armed robbery attempt in the Californian city.
Many details remain unclear but thankfully the footballer will be okay, as will be the suspect meaning he can face the full force of the United States’ justice system after incident in San Francisco’s Union Square.
“He’s good. Thank god!!!!,” Samuel posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, in some welcome news for football fans and the 49ers organization following a very tense 12 hours during which his ability to pull through the shooting wasn’t guaranteed.
Some 2.1 million viewed the post, with 28,000 likes and 3500 reposts as fans poured in their joy at his safety and their commiserations and sympathies for Pearsall.
One user wrote, “Hell yeah. Thanks deebo for the update. Great news.”
A second added, “Super glad to hear Ricky is okay. This was scary.”
A third commented, “Thanks Deebo. Sending prayers.”
And a fourth concluded, “So glad to hear, thanks Dee.”
Who is Ricky Pearsall?
Pearsall had been picked 31st overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and was set to have a big role in the 49ers’ offense considering the uncertainty around Brandon Aiyuk‘s future with the team, but now that could all change after the shooting.
He played college football for the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Florida Gators where he caught 10 touchdowns from 1547 yards and rushed for 191 yards and five touchdowns, possessing a dual threat role.
“San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting this afternoon,” the 49ers posted to X.com on August 31. “He sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in a serious but stable condition.
“We ask that you respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.”
