Head coach Deion Sanders is losing his star players Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL, just after they guided Colorado to a 9-4 season that ended with a disappointing Alamo Bowl loss to the BYU Cougars. Though Prime has indicated his excitement over working with new quarterback JuJu Lewis, it will not be easy to watch his son and his prized two-way threat leave for the NFL, and speculation persists that Deion may try to engineer a way to join them.
Prime, Shedeur, and Travis…at Gillette Stadium?
Coach Prime‘s love for Shedeur and Travis is set to be tested, according to FOX Sports analyst Nick Wright — who on Monday revealed what might well be Deion’s “master plan” to capitalize on Colorado’s strong season and return to the NFL in 2025.
The New England Patriots are on course to land the #1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, a potential franchise-defining outcome of events as the Pats seek a return to Super Bowl contention after dominating the NFL for nearly two decades. With that top pick, Wright believes that New England has to contemplate every possibility — including trading down to secure more picks.
Wright explains that if the Patriots feel that Shedeur Sanders is a better prospect than Drake Maye — whom New England selected #3 overall in the 2024 draft — then they have to shop Maye and select Shedeur with the first pick. If the quarterback-needy Tennessee Titans land the #2 pick, Nashville could be Maye’s destination…and the Pats could use their newly-acquired second pick to take Hunter, pairing the two with Prime once again.
However, Patriots owner Robert Kraft would have to admit defeat with first-year head coach Jerod Mayo, whom he hand-picked to replace the legendary Bill Belichick. The 3-13 Pats haven’t shown much improvement under Mayo, but New England might want to give their Belichick successor more time to put his own stamp on the franchise rather than turning it over to Deion Sanders. However, nothing can be ruled out just yet — even though Deion has been pretty insistent that he is staying in the NCAA.
