There is good news for Odell Beckham Jr. and the Miami Dolphins. With the team needing an experienced receiver to complete quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s arsenal, losing Beckham was a tough blow. However, fortune finally smiled on the Dolphins.
Beckham’s arrival to the Dolphins caused great expectations among fans. The 10-year veteran arrived in Miami looking for his second wind after four seasons of rather modest numbers after his stellar stint with the New York Giants.
This past May, Beckham signed a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the Dolphins. However, the experienced receiver almost immediately went on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
At the time, the player explained that his absence was due to knee surgery and his desire to spend more time with his family. However, the time has come to see him in a Dolphins uniform.
The return of Odell Beckham
In a statement on their website, the Dolphins announced that they have “activated wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. off the physically unable to perform list,” after he participated in his first practices with the team throughout the week.
The move appears to be in response to the desperate situation of the Dolphins’ offense. With Tagovailoa still under the NFL’s concussion protocol and backup Skylar Thompson injured, head coach Mike McDaniel needs all his stars.
Although it is still unknown if Beckham will be given the green light for the Week 5 game against the New England Patriots, his return is good news for the Dolphins. The team can definitely use a pair of hands to complement star receiver Tyreek Hill.
Beckham’s priorities
The receiver has not yet made any statements about his reactivation. However, in past interviews, he had stated that he decided to give priority to other things in his life. “There was a lot going on in my life, personal life, businesses, all of that, that just kind of had me in a place where football wasn’t exactly the priority.”
He indicated that he had to undergo knee surgery during the offseason, which sidelined him during training camp and prevented him from starting the regular season with the team.
However, he stressed that his top priority has always been his family. “I have a son, he’s two years old and I didn’t get much time to spend with him. I feel like he’s growing up fast and I’m not having that much time, so football exactly wasn’t the first and foremost thing on my mind,” he explained.
The addition of Beckham-along with the signing of quarterback Tim Boyle-point to a restructuring of the Dolphins’ depth chart, at least while they await the return of Tagovailoa.
