Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is currently trying to gt himself a nice contract extension but owner Jerry Jones is struggling to make the decision of how much his main man deserves. As we go through probably one of the most globalized moments in sports history, multiple NFL quarterbacks have been reaching millionaire agreements with their respective teams. Just last Friday, Jordan Love reached a 4-year deal for $220 milion with the Green Bay Packers and Tua Tagovailoa is currently negotiating his own contract with the Miami Dolphins. Making the decision to do a contract extension that massive has to be difficult for any NFL franchise owner. In Dak Prescott’s case, we need to see howhis most recent level of performance was with the Dallas Cowboys.
Does Dak Prescott deserve that much money?
Jerry Jones is certain about Dak Prescott’s level of performance, and he made it seem like he doesn’t have a choice but to wait. Because Prescott’s most recent season was pretty spectacular, to say the least. Dak kept the Dallas Cowboys within reach of a Super Bowl appearance but they were eventually eliminated in the NFC Wild Card by the Green Bay Packers. Mr. Jerry Jones recently spoke to the folks at Athlon Sports to discuss this idea and see where he stands. This is whatthe Dallas Cowboys owner said when asked about Dak Prescott’s extension: “Dak, very artfully, has positioned himself to where he makes the call. And at the end of the day, we have to live with it.”
The average number pretty much all quarterbacks who have signed these new deals already is between $53 and $55 million per season, regardless of the duration. People like Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love agreed to $55 million. Tua Tagovailoa is getting close to a deal for $53.1 million but he wants for the Packers to go up to $55 as well. If Dak asks for his extension, this status quo seems set in stone and he should definitely ask for the same. However, if all of these talented yet still average NFL quarterbacks are asking for that much money. We ned to ask ourselves, how much does Ptraick Mahomes deserve if he decides to renegotiate his $500+ million contract that he signed in 2021?
