The Miami Dolphins are choosing not to pursue a new quarterback despite Tua Tagovailoa’s recent concussion and backup Skylar Thompson’s rib injury. According to reports, the Dolphins are staying with their current roster, even as questions surround their quarterback situation going into Week 4.
Head coach Mike McDaniel hasn’t revealed who will start against the Tennessee Titans, leaving the door open for a decision later in the week. Currently, the team is left with options like Thompson (questionable) and third-string quarterbacks Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley.
Tua’s ongoing recovery and uncertainty at quarterback
Tagovailoa, who suffered his fourth known concussion in Week 2, will be sidelined for at least three more weeks, if not longer. The quarterback’s history of concussions has been a serious concern, yet reports suggest that Tua has “no plans to retire” and is eager to return. This determination comes after some fans speculated that the quarterback might leave the sport due to health risks.
In Tagovailoa’s absence, Skylar Thompson took over starting duties during last week’s 24-3 loss against the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately, Thompson had to exit the game in the third quarter after sustaining a rib injury. His status for the next game remains uncertain.
McDaniel keeps options open for week 4
With the Dolphins sitting at 1-2 and facing uncertainty at quarterback, Coach McDaniel addressed the situation in a recent press conference. “I’ll let it play out,” he stated when asked about his plans for the Titans game. McDaniel noted that the quarterbacks available at practice would get opportunities to prove themselves, but he avoided committing to a starter.
The Dolphins‘ offense has struggled without Tagovailoa, scoring only three points in the past five quarters since his injury. While the team’s season began on a high note with a win over the Jaguars, Miami has since lost two consecutive games.
Despite these setbacks, the Dolphins are standing by their current quarterback lineup for now, hoping their offense can bounce back even as the injuries pile up.
