Doncic, more ambitious than ever: The goal is to win the ring

Slovenian star Luka Doncic, leader of the Dallas Mavericks, stated on Monday that the best word to describe what he wants in the upcoming NBA season is “championship” and made it clear that winning the title is his sole objective, after the Mavericks lost last year’s Finals to the Boston Celtics.

“Championship, that’s the goal,” Doncic said with a smile as he wrapped up his press conference during NBA media day, ahead of the season which begins on October 22.

“I love pressure; it means we’ve done something good. I’ve felt it since I was at Real Madrid, I’m used to it,” said Doncic, the Mavericks’ point guard. “For the whole team, this should be a motivation, it’s a good sign,” he emphasized.

Mavs beaten by Celtics

The Mavericks reached the Finals last year but ran into a strong Celtics team that defeated them 4-1, claiming the 18th championship in their history.

It was the first Finals appearance of Doncic‘s career, and the Mavericks had not been in the title series since 2011.

“The experience of being in the Finals is different. Being there feels different. Last year, I wasn’t good enough. It’s a big motivation to win it all,” he admitted.

For the new season, the Mavs will have another weapon alongside Doncic and Kyrie Irving: Klay Thompson, who joined after his legendary run with the Golden State Warriors.

“Incredible, he’s a four-time champion, a fantastic player. I was very excited when he signed with us. I can’t wait to play with him,” Doncic added.
