Drake Maye and the Patriots’ receivers prepare a new plan to win the Super Bowl while awaiting AJ Brown

Finishing as runners-up in Super Bowl LX was not what the New England Patriots wanted. After resurging following the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era under the leadership of Mike Vrabel and Drake Maye, they are not looking to waste time in returning to the big stage for Super Bowl LXI.

Rumors remain strong regarding a potential trade between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots for wide receiver AJ Brown. Although nothing has been confirmed, all indications suggest it could happen, even if there is no clear timeline.

According to a report by ESPN’s Mike Reiss, this offseason Drake Maye has been focused on refining his throws alongside his receivers. He noted that the quarterback and his teammates practiced together at the Florida Atlantic facilities.

While the situation surrounding Brown’s possible arrival in New England remains unresolved, Maye has been working with his current group of receivers to minimize mistakes and develop perfect chemistry ahead of the 2026 season.

Updates on the AJ Brown trade

For now, it remains a rumor. However, as the saying goes, where there is smoke, there is fire. That suggests there have been conversations or at least preliminary talks between the franchises to determine how and when the trade for AJ Brown might take place.

It is evident that Brown is no longer happy in Philadelphia, but the Eagles are also unwilling to give in to pressure or demands. That is why the situation may currently be at a standstill.

If the Eagles traded the receiver before June 1, they would absorb $43.5 million in dead money on their salary cap ($20.1 million more than his current cap charge).”… “If they traded Brown after June 1, the dead money on their salary cap would be $16.353 million.

Reiss wrote and added.

That simple math highlights why any deal for Brown, with the Patriots a top suitor, wouldn’t be finalized until June 1.

Drake Maye and his wife traveled to Florida to escape the winter, and once there, he learned that Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and DeMario Douglas were also in the area, making it natural for them to meet and hold a mini training session.

We have mutual [friends], and he just shot me a text, ‘Hey Coach, I’d love to bring the guys out. Would you be willing to let us come use your facility to throw?’…”I said absolutely. I didn’t know him personally until I got to see him [Wednesday].

Everything counts when it comes to positioning themselves as contenders to be the best team in the NFL, as the Patriots continue building chemistry, refining execution, and preparing for a season in which expectations remain high following their recent return to prominence.
