Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk, 23, has tested positive in a doping test and faces a four-year ban. The news was broken by Ukrainian media outlet Tribuna, who claim that he tested positive for meldonium, also known as mildronate, and will give a public explanation soon. For the moment he has blocked the possibility of receiving comments on his Instagram account.
The footballer tested positive in a test carried out at the end of October with sample ‘A’ and will still have to wait a few days until sample ‘B’ is opened, which they also hope to analyse. After this, it will be clarified whether the Ukraine and Chelsea winger could be disqualified and, if so, for how long. It should be remembered that the player has not played since December 1, when he played against Aston Villa, and after that he has already missed four matches with the London team.
The official explanations the club was giving at the time was that on December 4, he had missed the game against Southampton due to a viral illness. In fact, two days later, his coach, Enzo Maresca, said that Mudryk was still ill and would not be against Tottenham: “In general, only Misha Mudryk is still ill. The rest of the team is fine.” Since then, the club has made further updates on the Ukrainian’s health status public as he has continued to miss matches.
Story in development.
