The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame race has gained significant momentum with the announcement of 167 modern-era candidates, including several high-profile first-time nominees.
Among them are two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, former Defensive Players of the Year Luke Kuechly and Terrell Suggs, and clutch kicker Adam Vinatieri.
Eli Manning, who spent his entire 16-season career with the New York Giants, is making his debut on the Hall of Fame ballot.
Manning, renowned for leading the Giants to two Super Bowl victories against the New England Patriots, amassed 57,023 passing yards and 366 touchdowns over his career.
Despite not earning All-Pro honors or leading in major statistical categories, his two Super Bowl MVP awards underscore his significant impact on the game.
Who else is part of the 2025 class?
Luke Kuechly: another prominent first-time nominee, played eight seasons with the Carolina Panthers. Kuechly, a Defensive Player of the Year and five-time All-Pro, was a dominant force at linebacker, leading the NFL in tackles and interceptions during his career.
Terrell Suggs: a key defensive player, joins the list with his impressive career total of 139 sacks, ranking eighth all-time. Suggs earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2011 and was instrumental in the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII win. He also contributed to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV victory.
Adam Vinatieri is recognized for his clutch kicking, including game-winning field goals in multiple Super Bowls. The NFL’s all-time leader in points (2,673) and field goals (599), Vinatieri’s career also includes pivotal kicks in the “Tuck Rule” game and Super Bowl victories with both the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.
Other notable first-time nominees include offensive linemen Travis Frederick, Ryan Kalil, and Joe Staley; running backs Darren Sproles and Marshawn Lynch; receivers Demaryius Thomas; tight ends Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker; and defensive backs Antoine Bethea, Aqib Talib, and Earl Thomas.
The Hall of Fame selection process involves multiple stages. A screening committee will first narrow down the list to 50 players next month.
From there, the selection committee will reduce this number to 25 semifinalists and then 15 finalists. Between three and five modern-era players will be inducted based on receiving at least 80% of the vote.
Additionally, there will be three senior candidates, one coach, and one contributor. Up to three inductees may be selected from these categories. The final class will be announced at the annual meeting before the Super Bowl.
As the process unfolds, anticipation builds for the 2025 Hall of Fame induction, with fans and analysts eagerly awaiting the selection of these legendary football figures.
