The rivalry between Tom Brady and Eli Manning is one of the most iconic in the NFL. It has been nine years since the two last faced each other, but their feud is as alive as ever, as evidenced by Manning’s most recent jab at Brady on social media.
The younger Manning is one of the few quarterbacks who can boast a winning record against Brady. Of the five times they faced each other, Eli’s New York Giants won three times, including two resounding triumphs in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI.
Although the two former stars moved their rivalry from the field to social media, this does not mean that it has become any less intense or any less fun. Eli, in particular, doesn’t miss an opportunity to roast Brady, as he just did for the shirtless photo his former rival recently shared.
Tom’s little fish vs. Eli’s monster
A few days ago, Brady shared a photo on his Instagram account from his most recent fishing trip. In the image, the former New England Patriots quarterback can be seen holding a fish he had just caught.
Without further ado, Eli shared side-by-side images of each of them holding a fish with the caption “Cute Minnow, Tom,” alluding to the obvious fact that Brady’s catch is much smaller than Manning’s.
Brady’s epic response
But Brady is not one to keep quiet and immediately responded: “You use a helmet to catch that one too?” Tom’s response references David Tyree’s providential “Helmet Catch” in Super Bowl XLII, which set the stage for Manning’s championship-winning touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress.
That was Brady’s Patriots’ only loss of the 2007 season, and while Tom continues to insist it was all luck, that doesn’t deny Eli the bragging rights he won fair and square, even if it’s just about Tom’s little fish.
