Conor McGregor has revealed on social media that he is placing a hefty $63,000 bet on Cristiano Ronaldo to finish Euro 2024 as the tournament’s top scorer.
The UFC star stands to win big if his bet comes through and hopes his good friend can do him a favor. The two superstars were recently spotted together watching Anthony Joshua’s fight against Otto Wallin together and later comparing watches in Saudi Arabia.
What happened after Matchday 1
Ronaldo failed to score in Portugal’s win and was guilty of squandering a couple of good chances as substitute Francisco Conceicao emerged as the match-winner for Roberto Martinez’s side.
The 21-year-old scored in stoppage time to secure a 2-1 Portugal comeback and steal the show from teammate Ronaldo.
Fans critical of the bet
McGregor’s bet on Ronaldo has been criticized by fans as the Portugal icon had a disappointing start to his Euro 2024 participation.
In fact, fans took to social media to express their disappointment with Ronaldo’s performance in Portugal’s 2-1 opening victory over the Czech Republic.
“That’s like throwing money down the toilet,” wrote one fan about McGregor’s bet.
Another added: “You can say SIUUU later about that money.”
A third wrote: “What a waste of money. I won’t even be able to get close to the top scorer.”
