Experts believe Cowboys are bad, but not bad enough to pick first in 2025 Draft

The Dallas Cowboys’ season has gone down the drain. Very early in the season, the team showed its shortcomings and, once they started losing games, they began to lose heart and now it is hard to see how they can win a game for the rest of the season, even though the team’s owner, Jerry Jones, declared a couple of weeks ago that he hoped the team could improve somewhat in its performance for the rest of the season.

However, Jones seems to be the only one optimistic that the team can get out of the crisis they are in, because it seems that not even the players or coaches have hope of coming back and it seems that it is only a matter of time to formalize their elimination from the competition.

Therefore, many fans have begun to pin their hopes on the next Draft, hoping to be in one of the top spots in the lottery, in search of a player who has the specific weight in the team and changes its face. The not-so-good news for Jerry Jones’ team is that the team is not bad enough to get into the Top-5 of the Draft.

The good news is that the odds are that the team will finish in the top 10, with access to significant talent to shore up some of its major shortcomings.

According to estimates made by FTN’s DVOA, which analyses several factors, mainly the difficulty of the remaining schedule, the Cowboys have only a 21.9% chance of getting a Top-5 pick. Here is their analysis of the favourites to top the draft order in the upcoming collegiate draw:

  1. New England Patriots, 78%
  2. Cleveland Browns, 70%
  3. Tennessee Titans, 66%
  4. Las Vegas Raiders, 64%
  5. Carolina Panthers, 58%
  6. New York Giants, 53%
  7. Jacksonville Jaguars 46%
  8. New York Jets, 28%
  9. Dallas Cowboys, 22%
  10. Chicago Bears, 8%

With this estimate, if the NFL Draft were held today, the Cowboys would have the ninth overall pick.

Naturally, teams look to win as many games as possible, even though their seasons may already be lost, and some people speculate that on some occasions some coaches prefer to lose in order to get a better place in the Draft, but it has all been speculation.

What is true is that in this entire list of losing teams, things are unlikely to change, even in the order in which they will choose.

In the case of the Cowboys, experts point out that they only have a chance of beating the NY Giants, led by Tommy DeVito, on Thanksgiving Day and in their visit to the Carolina Panthers in Week 15.
