Legendary NBA player Tracy McGrady has expressed his concern about Team USA‘s prospects for the 2028 Olympics, to be held in Los Angeles, warning that the US could have serious difficulties in maintaining their dominance on the world stage, especially after seeing how they suffered at the Paris Games against the likes of Serbia and France.
According to McGrady, who played 16 seasons in the NBA (Raptors, Magic, Rockets, Knicks, Pistons, Hawks and Spurs), the next generation of American talent may not be enough to secure the gold medal, especially with the impending retirement from the national team of legends such as LeBron James (40 in December), Stephen Curry (36) and Kevin Durant (35), pillars of the last Olympic gold at the Paris Games.

Who will the U.S. take to Los Angeles 2028?
“USA is in trouble next Olympics. I’m afraid that gold might be going somewhere else,” he began telling his 1.2 million Instagram followers.
“I love Ant-Man’s game. Who knows what Jayson Tatum’s going to do? So what Americans [are] coming up?
“Paolo Banchero might be a guy that we could throw in there because he’s a young up and coming player. Cooper Flagg maybe, he’ll probably be in his third, entering his fourth year. I’m looking for guys that are on Steph Curry and KD and Bron’s level, and I don’t see that coming up. We might struggle in the next Olympics.”
He is not just concerned about a supposed lack of talent coming through back home, but also stressed that other countries are getting stronger.
“I think Canada has a great chance. I think France, obviously they have a great chance because they have Wemby and they produce great talent over there. You just don’t know what some of these other countries are producing,” he concluded.
