Haason Reddick is not yet out of one problem when he is already head-first into another. The New York Jets linebacker has yet to resolve his standoff with the team due to a contract disagreement. Now, he is the subject of a lawsuit by a former business partner accusing him of having bullied him into not covering a debt.
Reddick came to the Jets in 2024, traded by the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional third-round pick. The linebacker, who was a star with the Eagles and the Arizona Cardinals, has not yet played a single game in the current NFL season due to a disagreement with the team regarding his contract.
According to press reports, Reddick came to the Jets believing his new team would offer him a contract extension. However, the offer never came, and the linebacker decided not to report to the team until resolving the dispute.
That has not happened. On the contrary, the player is losing around $800,000 for each game he misses, plus a $5 million fine stipulated in the NFL collective bargaining agreement. As if that were not enough, Reddick is involved in a legal dispute that could cost him more than just money.
The lawsuit against Haason Reddick
A report from the New York Post indicates that Reddick’s former business partner, Micah Khan, filed a lawsuit against the player, accusing him of having hired “men in black gloves” to intimidate him so that he would not have to pay him $1.6 million for the sale of a health care home the player owned.
The lawsuit says the linebacker acquired Haven Home Health Agency in 2018. Reddick decided to focus on his NFL career, leaving the business in the hands of his father, Raymond Matthews. By 2021, the company was in poor financial shape due to Matthews’ lack of experience in the field.
It was then that Reddick hired Khan to take over marketing and business development for the agency. Khan not only rescued the company, but this past April, he sold it for $3.25 million to MNH Pa. Home Care Acquisitions. Of this amount, $1.6 million corresponded to Khan.
However, the complainant said that when he wanted to collect his part of the deal, Matthews allegedly threatened him, following Reddick’s instructions. “Mr. Matthews brought over more than a dozen black-gloved men to a business meeting, claiming they were ‘Haason’s personal security,'” Khan said in the lawsuit.
Reddick has not responded
Ross Wolfe, Khan’s attorney, said that the businessman attempted to talk to Reddick to resolve the problem outside of court without success. Likewise, several media outlets have tried to reach the player to hear his version of the events but have not received a response.
In the midst of his labor dispute with the Jets, Reddick’s representatives, Creative Artists Agency, have distanced themselves from the player. Now, Reddick’s career is in limbo and could face serious legal consequences as a result of the recent complaint.
