Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III is working at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion in Carson City while serving a 3-to-10-year prison sentence. He was sentenced on Aug. 9, 2023, after pleading guilty to driving drunk at 156 mph and crashing into a car that killed Tina Tintor, 23, and her dog. The crash occurred in November 2021. Prosecutors said Ruggs’ blood alcohol level was 0.16, twice the legal limit.
Ruggs is serving his sentence at Stewart Conservation Camp in northern Nevada, a facility that houses the minimum number of prisoners and inmates the community can trust. Ruggs is classified as a “trusted member of the community,” according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. In that job, community organizers worked in government offices earning $2.50 an hour.
Henry Ruggs began serving his sentence at High Desert State Prison, northwest of Las Vegas, records show. The prison, the department’s largest, is a 45-minute drive northwest of Las Vegas. He was then moved to Stewart Conservation Camp last September.
Ruggs, who was originally charged with DUI resulting in death, DUI resulting in bodily injury, two counts of reckless driving resulting in death or serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, accepted a plea deal. guilty last May.
Ruggs will be eligible for parole in August 2026. He is eligible to receive credit for time served as part of his work program, the spokesperson said.
How can he be reinstated into society? By working at the Governors Mansion
Trusted community inmates “have limited potential for misconduct and a low risk of escape when assigned to work in the community,” according to the department. They are assigned to work in the areas of buildings and grounds, parks and recreation, and the Governor’s Mansion, including cleaning, groundwork, and helping with events.
According to the department, about four inmates are assigned to the Governor’s Mansion. “The Nevada Department of Corrections independently assigns offenders bona fide status as they qualify under the law. “The Governor’s Office and the Governor’s Mansion are not involved in any genuine work assignments,” according to Lombardo spokesperson Elizabeth Ray.
Henry Ruggs has the hope to be back as normal citizen past 2026 even if he can not go back to the NFL.
