The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public alert concerning a phishing scam involving a fraudulent website purporting to be associated with Alipay Financial Services (HK) Limited. This notice was released following a report from the relevant stored value facility (SVF) licensee, as stated by the HKMA.

Details of the Fraudulent Activity

According to the HKMA, the fraudulent website, identified as http://alihkpay[.]com/YTGaB, is being used in a phishing scheme to deceive users into providing personal information or account credentials. The HKMA underscores the importance of vigilance among the public, urging individuals who have interacted with the fake website or received related phishing messages to take immediate action.

Recommended Actions

The HKMA advises those who might have shared their personal data or conducted transactions through the fraudulent site to promptly contact the concerned SVF licensee. Additionally, affected individuals should report the incident to the local police or reach out to the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre of the Police by calling 18222.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Phishing

This warning is part of a broader effort by financial authorities in Hong Kong to combat the rising tide of digital scams. With online financial transactions becoming increasingly prevalent, the HKMA continues to work closely with financial institutions and law enforcement agencies to safeguard consumers against cyber threats.

The HKMA’s proactive stance highlights the critical need for public awareness and education on identifying and reporting phishing attempts. Such vigilance is essential in maintaining the integrity and security of the financial ecosystem.
