The Kansas City Chiefs and Marquise Brown agreed to a one-year contract to ad to the wide receiving core and also help quarterback Patrick Mahomes. This upgrade at the position gives the team another chance to win the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers for their second straight Lombardi Trophy last season despite having one of the least productive wide receiver groups in the NFL. Rookie Rashee Rice became a useful option in the passing game, but otherwise the Chiefs had to rely on officials and stopgaps as they chased another title.

Now it seems that Hollywood Brown could become a big target offensively but not only there. “Yeah, he might [play some special teams],” Andy Reid said, per ProFootballTalk. “We give everybody a chance back there. He’s so talented, but if you can get a couple, three guys that can do that and you feel comfortable with them, that’s a pretty good thing. … We asked him to get back there, and he wants to do that. He wants to play, and he’s got a great attitude.”

His football roots will be useful

The Oklahoma graduate signed a one-year contract with a base salary of $7 million with Kansas City to join an offense that did not have a clear WR1 last season. In fact, none of the team’s receivers have surpassed 1,000 yards in the regular season (including Travis Kelce) and only two players surpassed 500 yards individually.

For his part, the former Ravens receiver, who played his last two seasons in the Cardinals, only surpassed a thousand receiving yards in one season (2021, with Baltimore). Furthermore, of the 72 regular season games he has played in his entire career, he has only surpassed 100 yards in six (eight if we add the playoffs).
