How has Jaxson Dart saved the job of his close friend Cam Skattebo? The New York Giants appear to be heading in a different direction

When you hit on a major pick in the NFL Draft, it’s a statement move. What you cannot afford is to waste that success, and after years of struggles, the New York Giants seem to have found a light at the end of the tunnel. Selecting Jaxson Dart in the first round last year has opened up a new path for the franchise.

The Giants are coming off three terrible seasons, and when you add the fact that since their last Super Bowl win in 2011 they have only made the playoffs a couple of times, it becomes unacceptable for a franchise with such a rich history like the “Big Blue.” Now, with Jaxson Dart leading the way, there is hope for change-although any mistake in his development could be costly.

That is why the Giants’ front office, still led by Joe Schoen, has made bold decisions and signed John Harbaugh, the successful former head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. After being let go, he quickly took on the challenge of leading New York and, most importantly, developing Jaxson Dart, a quarterback with tremendous talent. There are still areas to improve, but he has already shown what he’s capable of.

The Giants’ first-round pick could be focused on defense.

It seems that the New York Giants’ upcoming No. 5 overall pick is starting to take shape. With the free-agent signing of Darnell Mooney, they appear set at wide receiver, which could take them out of the race for Carnell Tate, who had been linked to the team. Instead, they may shift their focus toward strengthening the defense.

The Giants’ defense took a major step forward, especially late last season, with Brian Burns leading the NFC in sacks and Abdul Carter stepping up. Now, John Harbaugh could further reinforce that unit by targeting one of the nation’s top linebackers: Arvell Reese.

Reese had an outstanding 2025 season, recording 6.5 sacks and emerging as the true leader of an elite Ohio State defense. He was also a unanimous All-American, which is why betting markets project him as the No. 5 overall pick-currently held by the New York Giants. All signs point to John Harbaugh building a dominant defense.

This could ultimately save Cam Skattebo’s job as the starting running back next season, especially since Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love had been linked to the Giants. However, in recent days, momentum has been building for him to land with the Tennessee Titans at No. 4.
