Huge brawl in Pistons vs Timberwolves game leaves seven ejected and a major embarrassment for the NBA

Fights and ‘brawls’ as a result of the physical friction of sports are unfortunately common, and especially in sports such as soccer, hockey or basketball they frequently make the news.

And it was precisely in the latter that the most recent one took place on Sunday, an embarrassing fight on the court at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

This is how the events unfolded

The second quarter of the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Detroit Pistons was being played, and the scoreboard showed a slight advantage for the visitors at 39-30, when with just over eight minutes on the clock, Pistons player Isaiah Stewart was called for a technical foul for hitting Donte DiVincenzo of the Timberwolves.

Ron Holland II of Detroit then stole the ball from Minnesota’s Naz Reid on a layup, and the two immediately exchanged words, so DiVincenzo intervened violently, sparking chaos on the court.

The embarrassing episode took place in front of Alex Rodriguez, owner of the Timberwolves, and unfortunately on top of the front row audience, so the former baseball player had to intervene along with more people to untangle the cloud of brawlers who were not aware at the time of being on top of the fans.

The balance of the violent fight

At the end of the violent episode, five players and two coaches were ejected. Detroit lost coach J.B. Bickerstaff, center Isaiah Stewart, forward Ron Holland II and guard Marcus Sasser. Minnesota forward Naz Reid and guard Donte DiVincenzo were also ejected, along with assistant coach Pablo Prigioni

According to OptaSTATS, this game broke the record for the most technical fouls in a game, with 12, something that had not happened in the NBA since March 23, 2005.
