After pulling off a blockbuster trade for former All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, the Kansas City Chiefs have sent a message to the NFL: they want to make history as the first team ever to win the Super Bowl in three consecutive seasons.

However, the Chiefs might need a little more juice on offense to make those three-peat dreams a reality. Kansas City has been able to run the ball at an elite level in 2024, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes is enduring one of the worst statistical seasons of his career to date. Even still, the Chiefs are 6-0 and in a position where they can shop for luxury instead of fundamental pieces.

Kupp on KC’s radar

Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp is back from injury and performing at the level many fans have grown accustomed to seeing. With the Rams in a precarious position in the standings, speculation has ramped up that Los Angeles could try to move Kupp in the coming days to receive an asset in return and to move off his nearly $30 million cap hit.

And one team that has reportedly been in contact with the Rams over their former Super Bowl MVP? The Chiefs, looking for another dynamic pass-catcher while second-year wideout Rashee Rice recovers from a knee injury.

Kupp led the NFL with 1,947 receiving yards in 2021, when he helped the Rams win their first Super Bowl since returning to Los Angeles. However, injuries have disrupted Kupp in recent seasons — including this one. Kupp missed four games with an ankle sprain, and he’s only played 24 regular-season games since his legendary 2021 campaign.

That said, it will take an impressive offer for Kansas City to pry Kupp from Los Angeles’ grasp. Following the Rams’ surprise win over the Vikings on Thursday, LA sits just one game out of first place in the NFC West — which, to much surprise, has become a wide-open division. Rams head coach Sean McVay has taken a strong stance publicly over Kupp by declaring that LA is no longer looking to deal the star receiver — but time will tell if this is mere posturing.
