After being eliminated in the MLS playoffs at the hands of Atlanta United, Inter Miami will begin a new era, in which Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino made the decision not to continue as head coach of the Florida team.
While under the Argentine’s leadership, Inter Miami had a historic season, which earned them a ticket to the 2025 Club World Cup, which will be played in the United States, the Herons still have unfinished business in winning the MLS Cup for the first time.
The 2025 regular season will kick off in March, so the board led by David Beckham is looking for the next coach to face the next campaign, as well as the Club World Cup.

The candidates to join Inter Miami
The Miami Herald has revealed that on the table for Inter Miami are two profiles who could arrive for next season at the Chase Stadium as the new coach of Las Garzas, and coincidentally the two possible coaches played with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba.
The first candidate, and favorite to take over the bench, is Xavi Hernandez, who last July ended his contract with Barcelona, a team he led to win La Liga in the 2022-2023 season.
Xavi is well known at Barcelona and both, along with Andres Iniesta, were the engine of the Catalan team that won the trebles (LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Champions League) in the 2008-09 and 2010-11 seasons.
While the second strategist in Inter Miami’s sights is Argentine Javier Mascherano, a teammate of Messi’s at both Barcelona and the Argentina national team.
If chosen, Mascherano would have to resign as coach of the Argentina Under-20 national team to take over the Herons, which would represent the former defender’s debut as a coach in a professional team.
After the defeat against Atlanta United, the team broke ranks and until the next coach is chosen, it will be known when Inter Miami will begin its preseason.
