Is Jeremiah Smith the LeBron James of football?

Ohio State has long been a powerhouse for developing elite wide receivers, with names like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Marvin Harrison Jr. dominating the NFL. But according to Harrison Jr. himself, the Buckeyes may have found their most special talent yet.

Jeremiah Smith, a rising sophomore, has already turned heads with his incredible skill set-and some believe he could be the generational talent in football. Harrison Jr. didn’t hold back in his praise, calling Smith “the LeBron James of football.”

What makes Smith so special?

At just 19 years old, Smith has already posted eye-popping numbers. As a freshman in 2024, he recorded 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns in 16 games. His explosive ability was undeniable, averaging an impressive 17.3 yards per catch-something even Ohio State legends like Michael Thomas and Wilson never achieved.

Beyond the stats, Smith’s physicality and mindset separate him from the rest. “He’s built differently than everyone else,” Harrison Jr. said. “Athletically gifted, the mindset he has… there’s no limit for him.”

A future No. 1 pick?

Smith’s dominance is so evident that many experts believe he would have been the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft if eligibility rules allowed it. While he’ll have to wait, his future remains incredibly bright.

With two more years at Ohio State, Smith has a legitimate shot at rewriting the program’s record books. If he continues at this pace, he could become the first wide receiver in 30 years to be selected No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft-something not seen since Keyshawn Johnson in 1996.

Comparisons to legends like Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald are already being made, and if Smith lives up to the hype, the football world may be witnessing the rise of a once-in-a-generation player.

The question isn’t if he’ll be great-it’s just how far he’ll go.
