Is Jerry Jones destroying the Cowboys? McCarthy’s regret, Trey Lance’s snub, and the $9 billion Franchise in freefall

Is Jerry Jones destroying the Cowboys? McCarthy’s regret, Trey Lance’s snub, and the $9 billion Franchise in freefall

The legendary tight end, Shannon Sharpe, has slammed the Dallas Cowboys for failing to use Trey Lance as he hits out at their offensive line by declaring it to be “trash” following their 34-10 defeat to the Houston Texans.

Despite Jerry Jones investing $276m into the offense through deals to quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb, he only has three wins in this 2024/24 NFL season to show for it as the team slump to third in the NFC East.

Now five wins behind the Philadelphia Eagles, the prospects of a postseason appearance are long over the horizon and in light of that, the triple Super Bowl champion thinks they should stop focusing on the present and look to the future by giving Lance a shot.

“But the Cowboys, look, at this point in time, Ocho, I would just play Trey Lance,” Sharpe told Chad Johnson on their Nightcap podcast. “Because what are you hoping for?

“Try to get the worst pick you can possibly pick? It’s time to rebuild. Your offensive line is trash. From left to right, it’s all of them.”

McCarthy admits to second guessing

The comment comes after Cooper Rush struggled once again in his attempts to step into Prescott’s shoes, after the QB finds his season done with a hamstring injury, throwing for 354 yards from 55 attempts (58.2% completed) as well as one interception and just one touchdown.

Dallas blanked in three of the four quarters whilst their defense could do little to stop the onslaught of Joe Mixon, CJ Stroud and the Texans as they find their season firmly in tatters as they look to avoid finishing last in their division.

“I think the one thing I should have done at the end [that] I didn’t do was I put Trey in there,” McCarthy told reports. “I could have gotten him a series. That’s one thing that I was second-guessing myself on.

“But other than that, we got guys going down. There’s a number of guys went down the game and you just got to keep playing.”
