The Vince Lombardi Trophy, which is awarded each year to the NFL Champion, is named after the legendary Green Bay Packers coach who dominated the old NFL in its later years, but also the first in the Super Bowl era, when the league emerged as we know it. Although the trophy was named after Lombardi, from the 1970 season onwards, after the coach’s death
Since then, it has been considered a symbol of excellence in world sport, as one of the most coveted awards in the world. Therefore, its design and manufacture are in charge of the exclusive house Tiffany & Co. and consists of an ovoid ball of regulation size placed on a pyramid-shaped support, made entirely of silver. It weighs 107.3 ounces and measures 20.75 inches high, with a value that exceeds $10,000.
Unlike other tournaments, each champion team keeps a replica of their trophy, corresponding to the season in which they were crowned champions. Its creation involves meticulous craftsmanship, with a production process that takes four months and 72 hours of construction.
While players receive mini replicas valued at around $1,500, as well as a diamond-studded ring, which serve as personalized mementos of their participation in the championship
These rings are also handled by exclusive jewelers such as Tiffany & Co, Balfour and Jostens and are a display of extravagance and talent in high-end jewelry design. For example, each of the 2020 Super Bowl rings received by the Kansas City Chiefs staff and players featured 255 diamonds, 36 genuine rubies and a total close to $5 million for the lot and about $36,000 per piece
