Tom Brady’s transition to the broadcast booth has been anything but smooth.
The former NFL star’s latest performance on Saturday’s Steelers-Ravens game left fans questioning whether he’s ready for the big stage.
Brady continues to fumble in the booth
The legendary quarterback, who signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox to serve as their lead color analyst, had a tough time living up to the immense expectations during the Ravens’ 34-17 victory.
While Brady’s analysis has been met with mixed reviews throughout the season, his call of this game seemed to highlight his struggles.
One notable mistake occurred when Brady mistakenly referred to current Steelers running back Najee Harris as “Najeh Davenport,” a former Pittsburgh player who hasn’t seen the field since 2008.
Fans quickly took to social media to point out the blunder.
“Tom Brady Najee Harris ‘Davenport’ Wrong Najee, Tom,” one user posted alongside a clip of the incident.
Brady, 47, had previously drawn attention for another slip-up during the Eagles-49ers game when he confused kicker Jake Elliott with retired NFL legend David Akers.
While Brady did correct himself on air, the mistakes have left many wondering if his broadcasting career is living up to the hype.
“I thought Tom Brady would be better in the booth,” racing analyst Scott Shapiro tweeted.
“Tom Brady is terrible in the booth. I’m sorry. Hope he can get better.”
Despite moments of praise, with some fans noting that Brady“sounds more comfortable,” the former quarterback has yet to find a consistent rhythm in his new role.
The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, who reported Brady’s massive contract, even pointed out that the Hall of Famer “regressed this week” and failed to offer the “extra insight” fans expected.
As Brady continues to settle into the role, questions remain about how much longer Fox will stand by their $375 million investment.
With almost a full season of experience behind him, Brady will need to show significant improvement to meet the high bar set for him in the broadcast booth.
For now, it seems that Brady’s work in the booth is still a work in progress.
