James Rodriguez is expected to be the big signing of the Liga MX for the Clausura 2025 once Leon confirms the agreement with the player, according to media reports.
The Colombian national team player was released by LaLiga’s Rayo Vallecano due to a lack of minutes after just half a season in Vallecas.
James Rodriguez wants to make an impact with Club Leon
In Colombia, James’ supposed decision to sign for Club Leon has been criticized, as it was assumed that he would join Junior de Barranquilla, but the club acknowledged that it could not compete with the financial offer he had received and considered the matter closed.
With that statement from Fuad Char, owner of Colombian club Junior, the complaints about Rodriguez’s attitude focused on the financial aspect, but there was another reason why he had decided to join Eduardo Berizzo‘s team.
I don’t think it’s about the money. Obviously, Leon’s offer was better than Junior’s, but it’s not about the money because James Rodriguez still wants to succeed in international soccer and knows that there are important things in Mexican soccer… he still has international challenges.
“He been very clear that he wants to close his international cycle playing good soccer in a club that gives him the possibility of being at a high level and I think he sees that in Leon,” said Tito Puccetti, a Colombian journalist, for TUDN.
Club Leon and James sign for one year in Liga MX
According to information from Soy Fiera, Leon and James Rodriguez signed a one-year contract and he would arrive on Tuesday in Mexico to complete the process.
The former Real Madrid player would be the great reinforcement for the Esmeraldas ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States, which will be played between June and July, where the team will face Chelsea, Esperance Sportive de Tunis and Flamengo in Group D.
