The extent of the horrific injury suffered by Jaden Ivey is now known. Tests on the Pistons player have confirmed that he has a fractured fibula in his left leg, which means he will miss most of the remainder of the season.
The 22-year-old, 6-foot-1 forward had to be stretchered off the court against the Magic after Cole Anthony slipped and fell on his opponent’s supporting leg while trying to reach for the ball. Ivey soon realized that he had suffered a serious injury. He grabbed his shin and the Pistons’ medical staff came out to attend to him.
The players from both teams formed a circle around the injured player, who was lying on the floor, and towels were raised so that the fans could not see the battered leg. After a few minutes in which Ivey’s limb was immobilized, he was placed on a stretcher and carried off the court to the shock of the entire arena.
Anthony was seen to be very upset after causing the injury to an opponent, albeit unintentionally, and some players could not hold back the tears.
Ivey’s performance was one of the big stories of the season for the Detroit franchise, as he was averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He was an important part of the Pistons’ improvement over last year. They currently have a 15-18 record and are ninth in the Eastern Conference.
