Jake Gyllenhaal to throw the Kill Switch at Netflix for a Sicario-like action thriller

Forever the busy man, Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to treat audiences to another display of power with his forthcoming action thriller Kill Switch. The project finds Gyllenhaal (Road House, Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler) reteaming up with Harrison Query (Heads of State, Trigger Point) for a film that sources say feels like a mix of Collateral and Sicario. The official logline is under wraps, so that’s all we have for the moment.

6th & Idaho’s Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris will produce along with Gyllenhaal and Josh McLauglin’s Nine Stories and Scott Glassgold via 12:01 Films. Query will executive produce. Kill Switch is the latest collaboration from Query and Gyllenhaal, who, last June, joined forces for the political thriller Code Black, based on a short story by Query. In Code Black, the country’s top heart surgeon is flown to D.C. to perform a high-stakes operation, only to find himself led into a trap where his guile and genius are the only way to stop a plot that threatens both his family and the nation.

Query’s Trigger Point takes aim at Netflix

In addition to Kill Switch and Code Black, Query and Netflix are partnering on another one of Query’s projects, Trigger Point, an upcoming crime drama TV series starring Joel Edgerton. Trigger Point follows a group of former Tier One Special Forces operators who sell their elite skills to the criminal underworld behind the front of a private military contracting firm and the FBI agent who’s hunting for them. Jeremy Saulnier is getting behind the camera for Trigger Point, with Query showrunning and executive producing.

Gyllenhaal can’t be stopped

According to Deadline, Kill Switch went to Netflix after a heated bidding war. That’s to be expected, though, given the Gyllenhaal factor. He’s one of Hollywood’s hottest tickets with eleven projects currently in the works. He’s currently filming Road House 2 for director Ilya Naishuller, starring Dave Bautista, Peter Sarsgaard, Leila George, Aldis Hodge, Rob Delaney, Iko Uwais, Andrew Bachelor, and more. Beyond barroom brawls, Gyllenhaal has multiple projects in post-production, including M Night Shyamalan’s Remain, Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey, and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! As I said, the dude is busy.

I’m always down for a solid action thriller. Query knows what he’s doing, and Gyllenhaal is forever charismatic when given a good script. I think it’s going to be a hot minute before we see Kill Switch come to Netflix, but in the meantime, we still have Trigger Point, Road House 2, and more to look forward to.
