Jared Goff has proven he is good enough for this really good version of the Detroit Lions, as he once again led his team over Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams to beat them in the season opener 26-20 in overtime.
The former Rams signal caller had a good night controlling the game after completing 18 passes on 28 attempts for 217 yards and a touchdown thrown to Jameson Williams; he also threw an interception.
Matthew Stafford returned to Detroit for a second time in less than a calendar year and had an overall good performance, especially in the second half but he could not lead his team to put the game away late when they had a three point lead. He was 34 for 49 for 317 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
First in the playoffs, now in the opener
It might not have been easy as it was a very tight and entertaining ball game, but the Lions have a very good team and Jared Goff is the leader of it. The Rams can say that they have the better end of the trade but in Detroit they have reasons to be happy.
While Los Angeles has recently won a Super Bowl, the recent two matchups between these two teams have been in favor of the Lions and the return to Detroit for Matthew Stafford has not been good.
While everyone is loving Goff, Stafford has suffered greatly both on the field and with the pressure from the stands and this is a rivalry that will continue for some time to the happiness of football fans everywhere.
