Jared Goff‘s wife, Christen Harper, has emotionally reacted to the wildfires in Los Angeles as she thanks the firefighters in her home state, who are tirelessly working to combat the blazes in Pacific Palisades.
Infernos have destroyed the Golden State, despite being in the middle of winter, and has forced a minimum of 137,000 people out of their homes, leaving them to burn, with nothing but a handful of possessions.
The devastation has killed at least five people and has destroyed some 15,800 acres of land, with the Los Angeles County fire chief, Dave Acuna, speculating that around 2000 properties have succumbed to the flames too.
Harper, who is from California but relocated to Detroit with her husband when he penned a deal with the Lions in 2021, has emotionally reflected on the incident some 2300 miles away as she compassionately thinks of the people and thanks the firefighters.
“Just so terrifying,” Harper said via Instagram Stories. “Thinking of everyone (affected) by these devastating fires across LA. So many places I’ve loved for my whole life gone forever. Friends losing their homes and displaced.
“Such a scary, helpless situation. Thinking of all the brave firemen and first responders working endlessly to keep people safe.”
Famous Hollywood sign at risk
One of the USA’s and world’s most significant cultural symbols of the past century is also at risk from the blitzing flames and searing heat as the fires approach the Hollywood sign after breaking out in the hills nearby.
Sunset Boulevard has already been destroyed and Acuna has admitted to the BBC that there is “zero” chance of stopping the blaze due to 60-100 miles-per-hour winds sweeping embers across the region.
There are at least five ongoing fires ravaging California at the moment. They’re located in Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Lidia and Sunset. Combined, they cover over 29,000 acres and that number could only grow higher as things stand.
“The whole Palisades is done,” Michael Payton, director of Erewhon supermarkets, told to the LA Times. “The whole town is done. This is complete devastation.”
