Jason Kelce confesses to his brother Travis and Jayson Tatum an unbelievable, “crazy” story about Lamar Jackson

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum joined Travis and Jason Kelce on their New Heights podcast, and while basketball is his primary arena, the conversation took a playful detour into fantasy football-a realm where Tatum admitted he’s still getting his bearings.

The NBA All-Star shared his rookie experience playing fantasy football for the first time last season, and it quickly became clear he learned a few valuable lessons.

Tatum explained that he entered two fantasy leagues during the NFL season and, like many beginners, aimed to draft the biggest names available.

“I had two leagues. So in one league, I had Pat [Mahomes]. I didn’t understand all about fantasy football… Let me go get the best player in the league. Let me go get Pat,” he said.

But, as many fantasy players find out the hard way, star power doesn’t always equal fantasy success.

“And nothing but respect for you [Travis] and Pat, but it’s like-it didn’t work out. It didn’t work out,” he added.

Travis Kelce, who knows better than most how the 2024 regular season played out, acknowledged the letdown.

“It was a different year for us,” he said. “Yeah, it was a different year.”

Lamar Jackson’s dual-threat upside draws praise

Jason Kelce took the opportunity to offer a bit of fantasy football wisdom to the rookie player.

He explained that mobile quarterbacks often hold more fantasy value than traditional passers due to their ability to rack up rushing touchdowns-especially in formats that reward rushing yards and scores.

“You gotta get either the running quarterbacks or the-like, you gotta get Jalen [Hurts],” Jason said. “He’s a great one because he’s gonna get-you know, like 15 tush pushes into the end zone.”

That’s when Tatum revealed that in his second fantasy league, things went a lot better-thanks to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Lamar‘s a great one,” Tatum said. “I had Lamar in my other league. He’s-Lamar’s unbelievable, obviously, in the real game, but in fantasy football too.”

Both Kelce brothers nodded in agreement, with Jason noting: “Oh yeah, he’s perfect for fantasy. I mean, he’s perfect. He’s pretty perfect for regular football as well, but fantasy?”

And Travis wrapped it up succinctly: “He’s got it all covered.”
