Jason Kelce proved he’s more than just a football legend on Thursday night as he took the stage with indie rock band Mt. Joy outside Lincoln Financial Field. Ahead of the Eagles‘ game against the Commanders, the former center surprised fans with a live performance of his new Christmas song, “Santa Drives an Astrovan.”
Kelce, who has transitioned to media and podcasting post-retirement, showcased his musical side for a good cause. The annual release of his holiday album, A Philly Special Christmas Party, is aimed at raising funds for Philadelphia families during the holidays.
What’s up, everybody! Thank y’all for coming out,” Kelce told the enthusiastic crowd. “This album goes a long way to help families in this area around the holidays. So thank you so much for supporting.
The NFL champion’s vocals surprised fans as he confidently performed alongside the band. At one point, Kelce urged the crowd to cheer for “the real musicians on stage” before boldly predicting that the Eagles would “kick some Commie a**” during the game.
A tradition of giving
Kelce’s Christmas albums have become a cherished tradition in Philadelphia. This year’s release features a standout track, “Maybe This Christmas,” with music icon Stevie Nicks. Speaking about the event on his podcast New Heights with brother Travis Kelce, Jason explained how the performance grew into a full-blown production.
“We initially thought we’d just do something small in the parking lot,” he shared. “But now we’ve got a full stage at the Linc right before the Eagles‘ biggest game of the season.”
The performance turned out to be a good-luck charm. The Eagles defeated the Commanders 24-18, with Saquon Barkley delivering an outstanding performance, rushing for 146 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
More than just a football star
From football fields to concert stages, Jason Kelce continues to prove he’s a man of many talents. His ability to unite fans through music and charity reinforces his legacy as one of Philadelphia’s most beloved figures.
Fans can look forward to more holiday cheer as Kelce’s album gains traction, spreading both music and goodwill across the city.
