Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested Thursday night in Franklin, Tennessee, on multiple charges, including driving under the influence and gun possession.
According to TMZ, the 41-year-old was also hit with additional charges of failure to exercise due care and violation of the implied consent law.
Cutler was taken into custody at the Williamson County Jail and released later that evening after posting a $5,000 bond.
Cutler‘s arrest stemmed from a car accident in which he allegedly rear-ended another vehicle while driving his White Ram truck.
According to law enforcement, Cutler attempted to offer the other driver $2,000 in an effort to prevent them from calling the police.
However, officers arrived at the scene and observed the former NFL star staggering, slurring his speech, and smelling strongly of alcohol.
Initially, Cutler denied consuming any alcohol but later admitted to drinking “a little.” Officers reported that Cutler refused to take field sobriety tests, leading to his arrest.
A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a rifle in the backseat and a loaded Glock handgun in the center console.
Although Cutler declined the field sobriety tests, he was transported to a hospital for a blood sample, with the results yet to be disclosed.
Cutler’s Legal Troubles and Personal Life
Cutler‘s court date has been set for January 2025, where he will face charges related to the DUI, gun possession, and other offenses.
This incident adds another chapter to the former athlete’s life, which has been heavily scrutinized in the public eye, especially following his divorce from reality TV star Kristin Cavallari.
Cutler and Cavallari, who share three children-Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and Saylor, 8-finalized their divorce in 2022 after nine years of marriage.
Their split was described as amicable, with both stating their mutual respect for one another, though Cavallari recently noted in her podcast that changes in their custody arrangement have impacted her personal life.
Most recently, Cutler had been linked to Samantha Robertson, though the status of their relationship remains unclear, particularly in light of the arrest.
This incident could pose serious legal consequences for Cutler, especially given the presence of two loaded firearms in his vehicle at the time of the accident.
